THE PROCESS

How e-commerce projects work with Aponia

You see what we’re developing before it becomes expensive to change.

Step 1

Discovery & Strategy

We pin down what you sell and who buys it, and then turn it into a clear plan.

Step 2

Design & Build

You approve the mockups before we develop. Then we deliver a store your team can run without calling us.

Step 3

Launch & Support

We test every step from product page to checkout. Then we train your team and stay on for support.

WHY APONIA

Why choose us over another agency?

Built around the sale

We design every page to carry the visitor to checkout. Its goal: bring them closer to buying.

Yours to keep

It's your store. We believe you should be able to add products and edit your pages yourself.

One team for all your projects

If you're looking for SEO, Google Ads, automations or maintenance, the same team that already knows your store can take care of it.

Fast where it counts

A sale shouldn't be lost to a slow checkout. We build for speed and stability, mobile first.

Let's discuss which platform fits your project.

Tell us what you sell and how you sell it. We’ll tell you whether Shopify, WooCommerce, or a custom build makes the most sense.

Learn more about building an online store

A store is the hardest part of a website to get right, because it has to process real transactions. Picture someone adding your product to their cart at 11 at night on their phone. In Canada, about a third of online purchases now happen that way. Most of what we do on an e-commerce project is about those buyers and how they reach checkout on their own, without help.

Custom store, Shopify & WooCommerce: which one should you choose?

As of 2026, there are really two platforms most stores should consider, plus a third option for some of the unusual cases.

Shopify hosts everything for you. It launches fast and the monthly fee is predictable. The trade-off is that you’re working inside Shopify’s ecosystem: you keep paying monthly for as long as you sell, and the store never fully belongs to you the way a WooCommerce store does.

WooCommerce runs on WordPress, which means the store belongs to you. Unlike Shopify, your content and your SEO work together instead of sitting in separate tools. Hosting and updates are your responsibility, but that’s a part we can take care of for you.

The third option is a custom build. It’s useful when your products are not standard. In the end, our advice depends on what and how you actually sell.

What's included in a store we build

Here’s what comes with a store we deliver, so it can take orders from day one.

  • Product and collection pages laid out so buyers find what they want and add it to the cart fast.
  • Cart and checkout pages with a clear path to payment that behaves the same on a phone as on a desktop.
  • Payment, tax, and shipping configured.
  • Inventory dashboard to let you add products and update prices yourself.
  • Order and shipping emails.
  • Customer accounts as an optional feature, mostly used by repeat buyers who want their details and order history saved.
  • Basic analytics to see what sells and where buyers drop off.

Selling online in Quebec and across Canada

Selling in different locations across Canada means different rules to follow. We help you with them from the start.

For instance, sales tax must be set up based on your situation, so the right amounts are charged. If you sell in Quebec, Law 25 can also affect how your store handles personal data. As such, we set up the consent prompts and cookie controls, and structure the privacy pages to match what Quebec expects. And since Law 96, the French version needs to be taken seriously when selling in Quebec: product pages, checkout, and order emails should be planned so they are available in French. Canadians spent over 90 billion dollars online in 2025, in both languages. For payments and hosting, we can help you run Canadian payment processing systems and host your store in a Canadian datacenter, with SSL and twice daily backups included.

The result is a store your team can run and your customers trust.

Integrations we connect

Your store integrates with the tools you already use. Here are a few of the integrations we’re asked for most often:

  • Payments: Stripe, Moneris, Helcim, & PayPal.
  • Shipping: live rates and labels with Canada Post, Purolator, and other carriers.
  • Accounting and inventory: QuickBooks and similar software
  • Email: Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Hubspot, Cyberimpact or your favourite platform to send your emails from.
  • Marketing: Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram and other ad pixels to help you track real sales.

We can’t list everything. If you’re using something that isn’t here, chances are we’ve worked with it before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Platforms & SEO

Shopify or WooCommerce, which is right for me?

Shopify if you want the platform to handle hosting and security and your catalog is straightforward. WooCommerce if you’d rather own everything yourself.

Yes. When your pricing or inventory does something the standard platforms weren’t built for, we develop the parts you need from scratch and keep the rest simple to manage. In addition, designs with us are always custom; we never use templates, unless you specifically ask us to do so.

Yes. We migrate your products and URLs with redirects in place, so your rankings hold. And we test checkout thoroughly before launch, so orders never break during the switch.

Taxes & Compliance

Do you handle sales tax?

Yes. We configure provincial and federal sales tax from the start.

Yes. The whole store can run in both French and English, including the checkout and the order emails. We also setup SEO for each language so that both versions get indexed.

For Quebec sellers, we set up the consent banner and the privacy pages to match what the law expects. Your lawyer should still review your compliance.

Cost, Timeline & Ownership

How much does an online store cost?

It depends on a few things, mostly your catalog size and how much custom work the design and integrations need. We give you an itemized quote up front, so there are no surprises mid-project.

Most stores take  6 to 10 weeks. A complex store or developing custom features can add time. We give you a clear timeline right from the start.

Yes. You own the store and everything it contains, code included. There’s no lock-in keeping you with us.

We give you a training session so you know how to take care of your store. If something needs some attention, we’re always available.
